According to a press release issued by BMW Motorrad on 8 July 2020, the motorcycle manufacturer achieved record sales - its "best ever sales result" - in June, selling 20,021 BMW motorcycles in the month, a 12% increase over June 2019 sales figures. This also represents nearly a 10% increase in sales over May 2020, showing BMW motorcycles to be enjoying an upward trend despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

June sales bring BMW Motorrad's sales in the first half of 2020 to 76,707 worldwide, down nearly 18% over the first half of 2019, no doubt due to the pandemic.

Almost 70% of the motorcycles (13,937) were sold in Europe, a nearly 24% increase over June 2019. Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Portugal contributed most to the upswing in sales for the period. BMW sold 2,997 motorcycles across Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Russia and Thailand, a 17.3% increase.

USA sales were not specified in the press release, but a little math shows just 3,087 BMW motorcycles sold outside Europe, Asia and Oceania. It's safe to assume most of those sales were in the US and Canada, as sales numbers have traditionally been low in the rest of the Americas.

The best-selling models continue to be the R 1250 GS and GS Adventure, but the supersport S 1000 RR and new models figured well in the sales figures, including the new F 900 R and XR models as well as the revamped S 1000 XR sport-adventure bike.

The highly anticipated R 18 heritage cruiser has yet to reach dealerships, so there is no gauge - yet - on how the introduction of this new motorcycle will affect 2020 sales overall.

Someone should ask why Western NY doesn't have a dealership. We had one in Fairport, NY outside of Rochester but it closed down and now if we want to have service we have to go to Troy NY outside of Albany to Max's. What does it take to get them to put a dealership somewheres near Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse?

Congrats to BMW and it’s dealerships!! I think the lineup and the bikes keep getting better and drawing new riders into the brand.

I have talked to some dealers and sales have been booming. All bicycle and motorcycle dealers of all brands are experiencing higher sales than ever as people find ways to play in the covid restrictions. Good job BMW but if you research you will find all manufacturers are seeing great trends. Two years from now may be a good time to find deals on used bikes but I hope those new bike owners keep them and keep riding. It would be great to see more folks on bikes in the USA.

Biggest seller after 1250 GS/Adventure, probably the 310 GS? Last year, I was told 310 R & GS combined outsold all other models.
