DETAILS

This is a road tour meaning you can expect it to be paved all the way. You will fly into Mexico City where the group officially gathers. No need to worry about riding in the city. A private transfer is arranged to link up with your BMW motorcycles conveniently staged well south of the capital in the Valley of Tepoztlan where we will start our riding adventure.

To enhance this unique touring experience, leading the MotoDiscovery team will be BMW MOA hosts, Dustin and Janel Silvey. As seasoned world travelers and acclaimed video documentarians, they will be sharing the tour experience in the pages of BMW Owners News. As a special bonus, Dustin, a world-renowned adventure photographer and motorcycle enthusiast, will be generously offering tips on how to hone your photography skills to fully capture the magic of this unique event.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mexico. If there is road-worthy riding in this country, we’ve probably done it. When it comes to motorcycle touring in Mexico, no one does it better than MotoDiscovery and no better transport than BMW.
  • Oaxaca (Wua-ha-ka) is located about 300 miles southeast of Mexico City and possesses all of the colorful character, pre-Columbian archeology, native indigenous traditions and Spanish Colonial heritage that makes Mexico such a fascinating travel destination. It is the capital city of the state that bears the same name and is famous for its rich and unique cuisine as well-known chef and restaurateur, Rick Bayless will testify. It is also known for one of the most interesting traditions, celebrated by native Zapotec tribes, Día de los Muertos…Day of the Dead.
  • The MOA Oaxaca Day of the Dead tour originates with your arrival by air into Mexico City. Many excellent international flight options are available. You will be met and transferred to the Valley of Tepoztlan. Aztec folklore venerates this scenic area as the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl; the prominent feathered serpent god of Mexico’s native inhabitants. The ride then takes advantage of great secondary roads to the city of Tilapa. Let’s hope the Aztec gods are pleased as we’ll be traveling in the shadows of the frequently rowdy volcano of Popocatépetl. At nearly 17,700 ft.,“Popo ” is a prominent snow capped feature of the landscape. Ending a superb day of riding, we’ll overnight in the authentic and luxurious Hacienda Rijo with a history dating back to 1684 during the Spanish colonial period.
  • Taking the most direct route to Oaxaca City, we’ll be conveniently located within walking distance of the centro and main plaza. Oaxaca has earned a worldwide reputation for its cuisine rooted in native dishes passed along and often fused with modern culinary creations. It is also home to mezcal, the high octane nectar of the gods. Cemeteries come alive with the setting sun, indigenous natives gather around the graves of loved ones and give offerings to the spirits. So much to do and see! We’ll be enjoying Oaxaca for three nights.
  • Reuniting with the motorcycles, we’ll ride what is arguably one of the finest riding roads in Mexico. Descending from the heights of the Sierra Madres to the Pacific Coast, we’ll enjoy two nights right at the ocean’s edge. Quinta Bella Huatulco.
The Oaxaca Day of the Dead motorcycle road tour is on paved roads throughout. Exciting culture and history, incredible dining, superb accommodations, idyllic beaches and,of course, excellent riding. Our service is genuine and legendary. This will be a holiday to remember.
  • A selection of the popular BMW GS model motorcycles are available. You will want to share this one with your friends. Advance bookings are required due to the demand for accommodations in Oaxaca during the Day of the Dead.
